As an African American Educator, I see now that it’s time that we write our own stories. Far too long we have allowed others who are not apart of our ethnic and cultural heritage to write our history. A majority of the books Patricia McKissack authors are about Africans and African Americans which is a sad commentary on our part. I am more determined than ever to encourage my African American colleagues and students to take up the mission of writing and publishing authentic work about our people.
